I mean, all you really want is to get a distance to the pin as quickly as possible, right? How many different features can you add? Why is one rangefinder $100 and another is $600?

Well, it’s pretty amazing how many different nuances there are. And the good news is that depending on what you’re looking for, you may not need to spend a ton of money to get a device that works great.

I’ve tested every single one of these rangefinders. I’ve played at least 3 rounds with each one, and in most cases many more. There’s likely not another person on the planet who has so much experience with all of these different brands and products.

My goal with this post is to help you find the right rangefinder for your needs and budget. I don’t care which one you pick, or if you buy one at all. I just want you to have the best information you can, based on my hundreds of hours of testing.

I update this list every time there’s a new product worth adding (or removing).

But let’s not waste any more time, and jump right into it.

Best for Most People: Voice Caddie TL1

The Voice Caddie TL1 is one of the best all-around rangefinders I’ve ever used. When I first reviewed it, it cost $449.

At that price, there’s a lot of stiff competition.

But then they dropped the price to $349.

And then they dropped it again to $280 just for Breaking Eighty readers. 

This device is fast, accurate, has a dual color OLED screen (rare), a magnet, and excellent build quality.

At this price, I think this is the best rangefinder value currently on the market.

My Favorite GPS Rangefinder: Precision Pro Titan Elite

The new Precision Pro Titan Elite essentially fixed all the things that were wrong with both the NX10 and their GPS-enabled R1 – and combined them into a new device.

The Titan Elite is hands down the best rangefinder Precision Pro has ever made and it’s one of my favorites I’ve ever used.

It’s waterproof and dustproof, very well constructed, fast and accurate, has great optics – oh, and it has GPS distances built into it.

I’ve been extremely pleased with how seamless the GPS works, and if you don’t want to use those high-tech features? It’s still an excellent rangefinder in its own right.

The downsides are that it’s only a 6x magnification, there’s no dual color display, and its not compatible with Android phones yet. But I think these are going to be worthy tradeoffs for a lot of people, considering this device performs as well or better than products that are far more expensive.

It may not be for everyone, but when it comes to value, performance, and features – I think the Titan Elite is hard to beat right now.

Money is No Object: Bushnell Pro X3

Last year, Bushnell released the Pro X3 as their flagship rangefinder – and it’s one of the very best rangefinders we’ve ever tested.

This year, they released a follow-up to it: The Pro X3+. 

It’s essentially the same device, but it adds real-time wind data built into the viewfinder – the first device ever to do so. 

Everything about it is great: build quality, optics, speed, and accuracy are all best in class.

Personally, I don’t love the new wind feature. It’s cool, yes, but not for the added hassle of pairing it with the Bushnell app.

That said, even without the wind, this is the best all-around rangefinder on the market. 

And it better be at $600. So if money is no object? Go for it, this is as good as it gets. But just know that you don’t need to spend anywhere near this much to get a reliable rangefinder that’s enjoyable to use.

Best Hybrid Rangefinder: VoiceCaddie SL3

The retail price on a Voice Caddie SL3 is steep at $599. 

But considering it’s got one of the best, most accurate lasers I’ve tested (the same as the TL1), and has a built in external screen with GPS data – with no subscription? 

Some will argue it’s the best rangefinder out there (and it’s certainly one of the best-looking).

The good news is you won’t need to pay anywhere close to retail if you’re interested in picking one of these up.

Most Accurate: Cobalt Q6 Slope

The Cobalt Q6 Slope is one of the most underrated rangefinders in golf.

I’ve given it my “most accurate” title for two reasons:

1. It gives consistent results down to the 1/10th of a yard. No one needs that amount of precision, and most devices that go down to the 1/10th bounce around. The Q6 does not. If it reads 100.4, it’ll keep reading 100.4
2. Its flag lock vibration feature is the best I’ve used. It really only vibrates when it’s locked on.

These two things combined, make me have more confidence in the accuracy of the numbers when compared to any other device I’ve used.

And for what it’s worth, I’ve used this rangefinder for my personal use more than any other. 

The two drawbacks? There’s no magnet, and you can’t get actual yardage, and slope-adjusted yardage at the same time, you’ll need to flip a switch to see each of them.

This is still one of my all-time favorites, and worth considering, and if you don’t care about fluff and just want something fast, accurate, and well-built – this is the one to get.

Best for Shaky Hands: Nikon Coolshot ProII Stabilized

Despite having a bit of a tongue-twister of a name, I was pleasantly surprised by how good this device is.

Not that I should have been. After all, Nikon has spent decades building their reputation for having extremely high-quality glass in their lenses.

Fortunately, a lot of that tech and reputation has transferred well into the golf rangefinder market.

Optical quality is usually the biggest differentiator between a cheap rangefinder and an expensive one. And I can safely say that the ProII rangefinder has some of the best glass I’ve ever seen in a rangefinder. Everything looks crystal clear.

But in the 4 years since this was released, many competitors have caught up on optics.

What others haven’t done, is provide image stabilization. Nikon added the same tech they use in their image-stabilized camera lenses to make it easier to lock onto the flag. So if you have shaky hands or have struggled to use a rangefinder in the past? 

This is definitely one I’d recommend.

Most High-Tech: Garmin Approach Z82

The Garmin Approach Z82 is unlike any other rangefinder on the market.

For starters, it doesn’t have an optical viewfinder.

Rather, this GPS rangefinder has a video screen that gives you all kinds of additional information overlayed on your view.

Want to know distances to the front back and center of the green, along with your pin reading? It does that.

Want to know what direction and speed the wind is blowing? No problem.

Want accurate distances to every single hazard on the course? Yep, it does that too.

Oh, and want a GPS locating system, so that you never lose your rangefinder again? The Z82 has got you covered.

That isn’t to say this rangefinder isn’t without its drawbacks, but if you’re looking for the most high-tech and arguably feature-heavy rangefinder on the market? This may just be for you.

Best Cart Path Only: Voice Caddie Laser Fit

This is one of my biggest surprises of the past year.

Not only is it the most compact rangefinder to make this list, but it’s also the only one that has triangulation.

If you’re playing cart path only, you can shoot the ball, then shoot the flag, and it will give you the distance between the two.

This means you don’t need to carry multiple clubs, or need to walk back and forth from the fairway just to get yardages if you play a lot of cart golf.

And the fact it does this and you can pick it up for $180? It makes it one of the very best values on this list.

The downside? For being a “cart path” rangefinder, there’s no built-in magnet.

Best Under $150: Shot Scope Pro L2

I’ve been getting a lot of requests to review and recommend truly cheap rangefinders.

The problem with most of them is that they’re cheap for a reason.

The Shot Scope Pro L2 is what I’d call a “fair” rangefinder. It’s ok. It’s fine.

At $149.99 the Shot Scope Pro L2 falls into the “cheap” category. With the “BREAKINGEIGHTY” code it gets even cheaper as it drops down 15% to $127.49.

And at that price, you can’t be too picky. 

But the build quality and design of it is great. It has both slope compensation and a built-in magnet. Maybe most importantly, it’s from a company that I know cares about their customers – so you’re going to get good support should things go sideways.

For all those reasons, as long as you’re ok with somewhat less-than-reliable speed and accuracy, I think this is the best rangefinder under $150.

Best for Garmin Watch Users: Garmin Z30

Garmin’s newest rangefinder is awesome, for a very specific person.

Unlike its more expensive sibling the Z82, it’s a traditional rangefinder with traditional optics. But, it has built-in GPS. And instead of just giving you stock green distances, when you shoot the pin, it will tell you exactly how far the pin is to the front and back of the green. 

Pretty cool.

But where this really shines is when you pair it with a Garmin GPS Golf Watch. It will automatically send that data to your watch, so the GPS distances on your watch adjust in real-time. 

It’s very cool tech, and if you use a Garmin golf watch, I’d give this serious consideration.

If you don’t however, then I’d probably stick with the Precision Pro Titan Elite for a GPS rangefinder.

What to Look For in a Golf Rangefinder?

Everyone is going to be looking for something a little bit different, and it really comes down to a combination of 3 things:

• Price
• Performance
• Features

Any of the rangefinders on this list will do the job of giving you distances. But some will do it faster and more reliably. Some will have extra features, that while not always essential, can make for a more enjoyable experience.

Some questions to ask yourself before deciding on the best fit for you:

• What is your budget?
• How long do you plan to have this?
• Do you want a slope feature? This will give you a second “plays like” distance number that accounts for the flag being uphill or downhill.
• Will you be using it in tournaments?
• Is feel and quality more important, or price?
• Do you niche features like GPS or image stabilization?

If you have answers to these questions, it will narrow your choices down considerably.

One other question to ask, is “Do you even really need a golf rangefinder?”

There are other options that may be a better fit. Specifically, this could be a GPS golf watch or shot tracking sensors with GPS built into the app.

But lately? Things have gotten a lot more competitive.

Brands like Voice Caddie, Precision Pro, and Cobalt have been cranking out devices that are just as fast, just as smart, and oftentimes just a better value. For the first time in a long time, it felt like Bushnell was starting to fall behind.

So when they dropped the A1-Slope, their first compact rangefinder, I was definitely curious. It’s smaller, cheaper (relatively speaking), and includes slope functionality at under $300. That’s new ground for Bushnell.

The big question: is this a sign of Bushnell getting scrappy again? Or just a safe play to check a box?

After spending some time with it, I’d say this: the A1-Slope doesn’t shake up the category, but it does do exactly what Bushnell does best—keep things simple, reliable, and confidence-inspiring.

Let’s take a closer look.

First Impressions of the Bushnell A1-Slope

Right out of the box, the A1-Slope makes one thing clear: this is not your typical Bushnell. It’s small! Not tiny like the Voice Caddie Laser Fit, but noticeably more compact than the Tour V6/V6 Shift, the Pro X3/X3+, or their new Tour Hybrid model.

And it’s not just the size that’s different.

This is also:

• Bushnell’s first rangefinder with a rechargeable battery (USB-C)
• The cheapest slope-enabled Bushnell ever released at $299
• The first with a removable “magnetic skin” for dual-use flexibility

So yeah, this isn’t a scaled-down clone. It’s a fresh take for the brand. And while it might not blow your mind with features, the A1-Slope brings just enough newness to stand out in the emerging compact rangefinder market.

So where exactly does the A1-Slope sit in the Bushnell family tree? Let’s take a quick look.

Where the A1-Slope Fits in the Bushnell Lineup

The A1-Slope carves out its own unique lane as Bushnell’s first real foray into compact territory. But how does it actually compare to the rest of the Bushnell family?

Tour V6/V6 Shift vs. A1-Slope

For years, the Tour V line has been Bushnell’s workhorse. The standard V6 (also $300) is larger, uses a replaceable battery, and skips slope altogether. Unless you pay up for the V6 Shift, which bumps the price to $399.

The V6 is classic and built to take a beating. You’ll definitely notice the difference in both size and feel if you switch to the A1-Slope.

Pro X3/X3+ vs. A1-Slope

Then there’s Bushnell’s flagship, the Pro X3. This is the “money is no object” device, loaded with features like environmental “Elements” (altitude and temp), dual-display color toggles, and arguably the best optics in golf.

The Pro X3+ can also interact with an app and your Bushnell or Foresight golf launch monitor to give you club recommendations based on your launch monitor data. It’s a very cutting-edge feature.

But with the Pro X3+ costing $600, or twice as much as the A1-Slope, it’s honestly overkill for most weekend golfers.

Tour Hybrid vs. A1-Slope

If you want GPS distances plus laser accuracy, Bushnell’s got the Tour Hybrid for $499.99. In addition to being more expensive, it’s bigger, heavier, and not nearly as streamlined in the pocket or on a walk as the A1-Slope.

Bottom line: The A1-Slope is the smallest, simplest, and most affordable slope model in the Bushnell line. If you want a “set it and forget it” Bushnell with slope and don’t care about the latest bells and whistles and don’t mind, or even prefer, the smaller size, the A1-Slope makes sense.

Solid Design and Feel, but Not Quite Premium

Bushnell nailed the build quality for its size. The device feels sturdy in hand, and even without the outer skin, it doesn’t feel like it’s going to break if you toss it in your bag.

The rubberized magnetic sleeve adds a touch of grip and a ton of cart-mount convenience, thanks to Bushnell’s signature BITE magnet.

But it’s not as bombproof as something like the Precision Pro Titan Slope, which comes in at $269.99. That thing is built like a tank, fully waterproof, and honestly feels like it could survive a drop from a cart onto concrete.

The A1-Slope? Durable, yes. But not invincible. Still, for a compact rangefinder, the A1 feels solidly built and very “Bushnell”.” And that counts for a lot.

Optics and Display: Clear and Fast

If you’ve used any Bushnell in the past five years, you’ll feel right at home with the A1-Slope’s viewfinder. It features:

• 6x magnification
• A bright, sharp display
• Bushnell’s PinSeeker JOLT for flag lock confirmation

The A1-Slope doesn’t include an OLED display like the Voice Caddie TL1, which you can pick up for slightly less. And you can’t toggle between red and black like the Pro X3. But the clarity is excellent, the yardages pop, and most importantly, it’s fast.

Lock-on speed is right in line with the Tour V6. Not quite Pro X3-level snappy, but certainly in the “reliable and responsive” tier.

And the JOLT feedback is strong and satisfying, exactly what you want when trying to confirm you’ve grabbed the pin and not a tree behind it.

Is the Rechargeable Battery a Blessing or a Burden?

The A1-Slope ditches the traditional CR2 battery in favor of a built-in USB-C rechargeable battery. On paper, this is great. Fewer trips to the store, less waste, and plenty of power (Bushnell claims over 3,000 clicks per charge).

But I’ll be honest. I’m still not fully sold.

Why? Because I know myself. I forget to charge things. My speaker, my watch… now my rangefinder too?

That said, this is a trend across the industry, and for a lot of golfers, it’s a welcome upgrade. The charge lasts many, many rounds, and the USB-C port is easy to access. So I don’t expect this will be an issue for many golfers.

The Removable Magnetic Skin

This is where the A1-Slope gets interesting.

Out of the box, the rangefinder is wrapped in a textured rubber sleeve that adds grip and houses a BITE magnet, Bushnell’s signature cart-mounting tech. But pop the sleeve off, and you get a slimmer, lighter device that fits more easily in your pocket.

In theory, it’s the best of both worlds:

• With skin on: cart magnet, more grip, slightly bulkier

• Skin off: true compact mode, perfect for walking

In reality, it’s a bit of a pain to switch between modes. The sleeve is snug, almost too snug. Taking it off takes a minute or two. But still, the flexibility is a nice touch and something I’ve only seen on the Caddytalk Cube implemented in this way.

What You Give Up by Going Compact

While compact is convenient, it’s not without its compromises. Here’s what you might give up by going with a smaller rangefinder.

For starters, stability. Bigger rangefinders are simply easier to hold steady, especially for players with shaky hands or if you’re ranging at longer distances.

With the A1-Slope, I found it to be stable enough, but I definitely missed the weightier, more substantial feeling of something like the Tour V6 Shift or Pro X3+. You’ll feel the difference immediately.

Button size and spacing is another subtle factor. The A1-Slope’s buttons are slightly more recessed and smaller than those on Bushnell’s full-sized models. Most of the time, it’s not an issue, but if you’re trying to navigate it with your glove hand or if you have larger hands, you might notice yourself fumbling a bit more.

You also lose out on the bigger, brighter field of view that comes with a larger device. This doesn’t matter as much from like 100 yards, but when you’re trying to shoot a flag across a pond or over a bunker from a longer distance, having more glass in front of your eye can just frame everything in a way that’s just more pleasant and convenient.

Finally, compact models sometimes just feel less premium. The A1-Slope is well-built, but there’s a tactile satisfaction in holding a larger device that feels like it was designed for the long haul. It’s a little thing, but it might matter to you.

So while the pocket size is a major win for portability, just know that it comes at a slight cost in terms of ergonomics and stability.

Slope Performance and Accuracy

Bushnell’s yardages are the most trusted in the game, and that holds true here. The A1-Slope gives you reliable, slope-adjusted yardages quickly and confidently.

There’s no fancy “elements” algorithm like in the Pro X3+. No factoring in temperature, altitude, or barometric pressure. All the stuff that’s honestly overkill for most golfers.

The A1-Slope pretty much just focuses on the basics: clear 6x optics, slope-adjusted yardages, and fast flag acquisition.

Its selling points are in its size, its versatility, and its price.

How It Stacks Up to the Competition

Let’s talk about the real question: Is the A1-Slope worth $299?

Here’s where things get tricky.

At $299.99, the A1-Slope is the cheapest slope-enabled Bushnell ever, which is huge for budget-conscious Bushnell fans.

But it’s also going up against some heavy hitters at that price point.

Voice Caddie TL1 (on sale to Breaking Eighty readers for $280)

This is the rangefinder I find myself recommending to most people these days. The fact that it originally retailed for $449 but that Breaking Eighty readers can now get it for as low as $280 is insane! At that price, it’s a ridiculously good value.

An OLED display, fast and accurate yardages, and a build quality that honestly rivals Bushnell. The OLED screen in particular is a feature you rarely see at this price point. Plus, you get slope and a magnetic mount.

I think for most people you’re getting more bang for you buck with the TL1.

Precision Pro Titan Slope (on sale for $269.99)

I’m a huge fan of the Precision Pro Titan Elite. And while the Slope model doesn’t include all of the flagship GPS features of the more expensive Precision Pro, it’s still as robust and bulletproof of a rangefinder as I’ve ever used. And, like with the A1-Slope, you can get slope-adjusted yardages for less than $300.

Here I think it depends on if you value durability or compact size. Whichever one is more important to you will help you decide between the two.

Bushnell Tour V6 ($299.99)

As we talked about the V6 is larger and more premium-feeling but doesn’t include slope. So, if you’d rather a heftier hand feel and a larger display and you value that more than slope-adjusted distances, the V6 is your best $300 spend in the Bushnell line. But to get slope, you’ll have to go up another $100 for the Tour V6 Shift.

Compared to these competitors, the A1-Slope is a bit of a middle child. It doesn’t have the OLED screen of the TL1, the ruggedness of the Titan, or the full-sized confidence of the V6 Shift.

But what it does have is a compact form, Bushnell optics, reliable slope performance for just $300, and the most trusted name in rangefinders. And for a lot of golfers, that’s plenty.

Voice Caddie Laser Fit ($179.99)

Then there’s the Voice Caddie Laser Fit, another one in the compact rangefinder class. Not only is it $100 less expensive than the A1-Slope, but it can also triangulate distances, which is a feature you’ll only find in a few rangefinders at this point. The Laser Fit build quality and optics aren’t as good as the A1-Slope, but it makes for an intriguing decision if you’re interested in a smaller rangefinder.

Who Is the Bushnell A1-Slope For?

This isn’t the rangefinder for someone looking to push the limits of tech. It’s not for gearheads who want OLED displays, wind data, or GPS integration baked into the viewfinder.

But if you’re someone who likes a more compact rangefinder, wants a trusted name with proven optics, rides sometimes and walks sometimes, and has $300 to spend but doesn’t want to roll the dice on a lesser-known brand, then the A1-Slope makes a compelling case.

It’s not flashy, but it’s solid. You’re paying a bit more, but you’re getting quality where it counts.

Final Thoughts on the Bushnell A1-Slope

The A1-Slope is a smart, strategic move for Bushnell. It gives them a foothold in the growing compact rangefinder market, without abandoning what’s made them successful for decades: clean optics, simple functionality, and dependable performance.

Is it the best rangefinder under $300? Not quite.

But is it a very Bushnell answer to a new category? Absolutely.

And if you’re the type of golfer who finds comfort in the familiar, appreciates smart design, and doesn’t want to compromise on trust, the A1-Slope might be the move.

When I first heard about the Pinned Prism+, my expectations weren’t exactly sky-high.

That’s not a knock on Pinned the brand. Actually, when I look at their whole approach to golf—fun, stylish, modern gear at prices that don’t make your wallet cry—I’m pulling for them.

Their thing is bringing personality to golf tech. And what’s wrong with that?

But at the end of the day, good looks and fashion sense only get you so far.

I assumed the Prism+ was going to be one of these “style over substance” products. A cool design, a couple of clever marketing angles, maybe a solid enough rangefinder experience, but nothing game-changing.

Turns out, I was wrong.

There’s a lot more to Prism+ than meets the eye.

In fact, after spending a round with it, I realized this rangefinder actually has some firepower I didn’t expect.

Most notably, it’s got one feature you very rarely see outside of high-end, $400-plus models.

That feature? 7x magnification plus the bonus of a very sweet 4K OLED display.

And once I started looking through that viewfinder, I found myself asking a simple question:

Why don’t more rangefinders do this?

First Impressions of the Pinned Prism+

The very first thing you’ll notice about the Prism+ is the color.

Actually, colors—plural.

Pinned offers this model in seven different solid-color options: Red, Navy, White, Black, Green, Pink, and even a USA-themed red/white/blue edition.

Mine is a bold and attention-grabbing red.

And you know what? I’m cool with it. In a sea of black-and-gray rangefinders, big color is a welcome addition.

I don’t think anyone would argue that Pinned is going for a traditional aesthetic. It’s clear who they’re talking to with this product: younger golfers, casual players, anyone who lean towards hoodies over polos.

But here’s the thing: I think the look works. It doesn’t feel gimmicky. It feels intentional. Modern. Clean. Even kind of classy in its own loud way.

The build quality? Better than expected.

It’s not Bushnell-tier (few things are), and I’d still put the Voice Caddie TL1 or Precision Pro Titan Elite ahead of it in terms of overall materials.

But the Prism+ doesn’t feel cheap. It feels solid in the hand, and I love the fact that everything is controlled with just one, big button on the top.

Also, the case has a unique magnetic closure that’s genuinely useful.

Still, none of that prepared me for what I saw when I actually looked through the viewfinder.

A Stunning Display With 7x Magnification

This is the part that caught me off guard.

You know how most mid-range rangefinders top out at 6x magnification? That’s kind of the industry standard unless you’re spending Pro X3 money.

Well, the Prism+ ups the ante with 7x magnification, and it makes a big difference.

Target acquisition feels easier. The visuals are clearer. And when you pair that with the 4K OLED red display, the experience inside the viewfinder feels premium.

Way more premium than its $260 price tag would suggest.

This might actually be my favorite thing about the Prism+. Not just the magnification, but the entire optical experience. The red lettering/numbering just pops nicely against any background, and the adjustable brightness (five levels) means it works just as well in bright sun as it does at twilight.

I’ve used rangefinders that cost twice as much and didn’t look this good through the lens.

Look, on paper, the difference between 6x and 7x doesn’t seem huge. But out on the course? It’s a different story.

That extra bit of zoom makes it easier to pick up the flag from longer distances or in trickier lighting. And if you’ve ever accidentally lasered a tree behind the green, you’ll appreciate how much easier it is to lock in on what you actually want to hit.

I also found myself using it to scout bunkers and layup zones. That added clarity can actually help you reconsider strategy when you can see more detail of the consequences you’ll face.

So yeah, 7x magnification is not just a spec on the back of the box. And that’s what makes it such a surprising value in the Prism+.

That said, there’s one small visual annoyance…

The Viewfinder Logo (Why Is It There?)

Pinned decided to include their logo inside the viewfinder display.

It’s small. It’s subtle. But it’s always there, floating just above the numbers like a digital watermark.

And I have to ask: why?

It doesn’t really interfere in any way, but it does feel unnecessary and a little distracting at first. And for someone who places a ton of credence in an uncluttered viewfinder – this was just a poor design decision.

It’s not a dealbreaker, but if Pinned asked for my feedback, I’d say drop the logo in the next version. The display is gorgeous. Let it shine.

Other Things the Pinned Does Well

The Prism+ holds its own function-wise. And for $260, I’m starting to see some significant value.

It’s not the absolute fastest I’ve used (Cobalt and Bushnell are still the kings there), but it’s solidly quick. Lock-on speed is reliable and consistent.

In side-by-side testing, the Prism+ stayed within 1-2 yards of the Voice Caddie TL1, which I’ve never had any reason to doubt its accuracy.

It’s got USB-C charging with a claimed 65-70 round battery life. That’s better than average. Most rechargeables top out around 40 or 50 rounds.

I’m still partial to good ol’ CR2s, but I get why a lot of golfers prefer rechargeable. And if that’s you, the Prism+ nails this implementation.

There’s a magnet on the side of the rangefinder, which makes cart attachment simple. It’s strong, but not Bushnell-strong. Still, strong enough.

There’s a physical switch on the side for turning slope mode on and off. It’s a little hard to tell which position means what, but the switch is there and it works.

Where the Pinned Prism+ Falls Short

As much as I’ve enjoyed using this rangefinder, it’s not perfect.

You get vibration when you lock onto the flag, but it’s… underwhelming. Compared to the tactile confirmation of a Bushnell, the Prism+ feels like a missed opportunity here.

It works, but sometimes you second-guess whether you actually felt the vibration. I actually find that more annoying than you might think.

You also don’t get a slope delta in the display. Yes, the Prism+ gives you slope-adjusted yardages. But it doesn’t tell you how much up or down you’re playing. You just see the raw number and then the adjusted number.

Not a huge deal. Most of us can do the quick math. But competitors commonly show you the delta either in degrees or yards, which feels more informative and polished.

You also don’t get any extra features with the Prism+. If you’re someone who wants triangulation, GPS integration, or club recommendations, this isn’t the device for you.

This is a laser rangefinder, period. No bells. No whistles. Just a number and go.

And that’s what holds it back from being a product you’re going to hear people scream about from the rooftops.

In an age when we’re getting bombarded with innovations—things like our rangefinders interacting with our launch monitors and our golf watches and phones for more and more immersive experiences—the Prism+ almost feels old-fashioned but with a very new-fashioned color scheme.

But hey, if all you need is a rock-solid rangefinder, the Prism+ does the job very well.

About the Prism+ Case

Quick sidebar here because I think it’s worth mentioning.

The carrying case for the Prism+ is actually really clever.

Instead of a zipper or a toggle closure, it’s held shut by a strong magnet that runs the length of the opening. It seals tight, opens quickly, and just feels nice to use.

I wonder if we’ll see more rangefinders ditch the zipper for a similar magnetic setup.

Comparing It to the Market

This is where the Prism+ gets really interesting.

At $260, it lands right in that mid-tier rangefinder market where there’s no shortage of competition.

But its 7x magnification immediately gives it an edge most people aren’t expecting. The only other one I’ve tested under $300 is the MGI SureShot, which has a very nice and unique form factor, but lacks the OLED display of the Pinned.

Still, I think the Prism+ runs into some issues when you consider some of the devices that you can pick up for around the same price.

A couple of those options are rangefinders that retail for $400 or more but that, through sales and discount codes, you can pick up for around what you’d pay for the Prism+.

The Voice Caddie TL1 has a dual OLED display and fantastic build quality. It also typically retails for $449, but Breaking Eighty readers can get it for $280, which puts it in direct competition with the Prism+.

That’s a tough battle.

The TL1 has better optics overall and arguably stronger branding (Voice Caddie has built a rep). But it only has 6x magnification. And for as good as the Prism+ red optics look, the dual color green/red combo on the TL1 is admittedly tough to beat.

The Precision Pro Titan Elite is another one that stands in the way.

It’s Precision Pro’s best rangefinder yet. And includes GPS integration, meaning you get your front, middle, and back green distances alongside your pin reading. That’s a feature you typically only find in $600-plus rangefinders.

The Titan Elite retails for $399, but you can occasionally find it on sale for $349, which is a good deal on a high tech, very well build device.

So just with those two quick examples (and there are others), you can see the hard road that the Prism+ has ahead of it. Fact is, you can get more features for about the same money.

But that 7x is pretty sweet!

Who This Rangefinder Is For

This one’s easy.

The Pinned Prism+ is for golfers who:

• Appreciate modern design and bright colors
• Want great optics without spending $500-plus
• Don’t need GPS or hybrid features
• Want a balance of simplicity and premium feel
• Are intrigued by a rangefinder that looks cool and also performs

And honestly? That’s a pretty big group.

So maybe it’s not such a tough road for the Prism+ after all. If you’re looking for a “best bang for your buck” candidate and value crystal-clear visuals and magnification above all else, the Prism+ is going to be a very appealing option.

Who It’s Not For

If you want a device that syncs with your phone, tells you wind speed, or gives you carry distance data from your last range session, this is not the rangefinder for you.

The Prism+ doesn’t want to be that kind of rangefinder. But believe it or not, you can find all of those things available on 2025’s rangefinder menu.

Also, if ultra-premium build quality is your dealbreaker, and you want something tank-like like a Bushnell Pro X3+? Spend the extra cash and go that route.

Final Thoughts on the Pinned Golf Prism+

There are a lot of rangefinders on the market right now. Probably too many.

And in a space that’s gotten really crowded, it’s easy to write off any new model as “just another laser with a magnet.”

I almost did that with the Prism+. At first glance, I figured the Prism+ was going to be a fashion-first device. The kind of rangefinder that looks great in an Instagram post but ends up collecting dust in the gear closet. And I would’ve been wrong.

Because while the looks are the first thing you notice, what really sets this thing apart is the view through the lens. That combination of 7x magnification and OLED clarity makes using it genuinely fun.

It’s one of those rare budget-ish rangefinders that punches above its weight class in at least one very tangible, very noticeable way.

Is it perfect? No.

The vibration feedback is weak. It doesn’t show slope deltas. And the viewfinder logo still makes me shake my head.

But at $259.99, it’s a compelling package.

For me, despite loving the 7x magnification, I’d probably still spend the extra $20 on the TL1. That device is just so good in every way, and it’s continued to be the one I use most often.

But if you’re someone who wants a rangefinder that looks different, feels modern, and delivers a seriously good visual experience, the Pinned Prism+ is worth a long look.

Honestly, about a year ago, I was starting to think that this product class had kind of plateaued. Like, rangefinders had kind of become a commodity, with all of them very similar to each other and little differentiation between models.

That idea has been completely blown up. Recently, all kinds of cutting-edge technology is being introduced on the rangefinder front to the point that we’ve got an entirely new product class: Smart rangefinders.

Suddenly, we’ve got multiple options, especially when it comes to GPS integration, that are not only really technologically impressive but that might actually help your golf game.

I’m going to highlight what I think are the five best smart GPS rangefinders on the market.  I’ve tested every single one of thse extensively.

I’m going to walk you through the pros and cons, compare features, and discuss pricing. By the end, you’ll know which one—if any—is right for you.

Quick note: I have not yet had the opportunity to review the new LINK-Enabled technology from Foresight and Bushnell or the upcoming i4 rangefinder from FlightScope. In each case, those rangefinders allow you to actually get launch monitor data and personalized club recommendations right in the rangefinder. Pretty cool in theory, and from what I saw at the 2025 PGA Show, they look very promising. I’ll update this post if those products end up making the cut.

What Is a Smart GPS Rangefinder?

Before the “smart” distinction, most rangefinders functioned pretty much the same way. You look through the lens, you hit a button, and the rangefinder gives you the distance to the flag, or whatever target you’re shooting.

But GPS-enabled rangefinders take things a step further. They integrate GPS data to provide additional information, such as distances to the front, middle, and back of the green, hazard distances, and even hole overviews.

How this information is displayed varies from device to device. Some models provide an on-screen display, while others pair with an app or watch. Not every unit will be for everyone. You may prefer the features or functionality of one type of smart rangefinder more than another.

Or, you might find that smart GPS rangefinders aren’t your thing at all. Because, honestly, I’m not sure this type of product is right for all golfers.

The Downsides of GPS Rangefinders

For all their benefits, which we’ll get into, GPS rangefinders do have some drawbacks.

For one thing, most of them require USB-C charging, which could be an issue if you’re the type of person who regularly forgets to charge your electronics. If that’s you, and you can envision yourself constantly showing up at the golf course with a dead rangefinder, maybe you’re better off with a traditional battery model.

The good news is that GPS rangefinder battery life has improved significantly since these were first introduced. Most of them will now go at least 10 rounds, if not many more, before needing a charge.

Another thing is that some of these smart rangefinders need to be paired with an app. That means there’s an extra step before you start your round. You’ve got to wait for the GPS to locate your course, you have to select your course and what tee box you’re playing from. You then decide if you’re going to keep score, etc., etc.

If you just prefer a simple, no-fuss rangefinder that you never have to think about until it’s time to get a yardage, a smart rangefinder might not be the right choice for you.

That said, if you are open to the game-improvement benefits that golf technology can unlock, I do think there are very real benefits to be gained by adding a GPS rangefinder to your bag. But not just any one. These are the five smart rangefinders that I’d buy today.

Best Value: Voice Caddie SL2

At first glance, the older SL2 and current SL3 are nearly identical. They share the same laser and GPS display, but the SL3 includes additional green contour and slope features.

Originally retailing for $549, the SL2 is now available on Voice Caddie’s site for $399. Not bad, right?

Well, it gets better. With special Breaking Eighty pricing, you can get an SL3 for $259! That’s an insane deal and as good as any value you’re going to find in golf technology.

This is only going to last until they sell through their remaining stock, and last I heard there were only around 200 units left.

So at $259, the SL2 is really tough to pass up. No, it doesn’t include the green contour and slope features of the SL3. But it’s almost $350 less expensive!

The SL2 won’t be for everyone. Some people aren’t going to want the built-in screen. Others will want some of the functionality of other options on this list. But if you’re in the market for a smart rangefinder and you want the best deal out there, this is it.

Precision Pro Titan Elite: Best Traditional Rangefinder with GPS Data

This might be the best GPS rangefinder for most people: the Precision Pro Titan Elite.

This one’s super convenient in that, once you pair the rangefinder with the Precision Pro app, you can see GPS distances to the front and back of the green right in the view finder. To get that GPS yardage combined with the actual laser-measured shot distance just works really well.

Precision Pro took all of the best features of their previous flagship NX10 rangefinder, as well as their older R1 GPS rangefinder, and combined them into one to make the TItan Elite.

The result? A well-built, highly accurate, and reliable rangefinder that I really enjoy using.

The only knock I’d have on it right now is the price. Considering there are a lot of really good rangefinder options out there for less money, you’re paying a bit of a premium here. But in my experience, it’s worth it for the build quality, and killer warranty/support.

Garmin Approach Z82: Most High-Tech Smart GPS Rangefinder

Alright, if you’re a tech gadget geek, just stop right now and go get the Garmin Approach Z82. 

The Z82 packs more technology into a rangefinder than any other device. It’s unbelievable what this thing can do. Hole maps, hazard data, score keeping, and all right in the viewfinder. There’s honestly no other rangefinder out there like this.

But there are some things about the Z82 that are going to disqualify it as a candidate for many shoppers.

One is the price. Like the Voice Caddie SL3, the Z82 is $599.

The other big thing is that the Z82 is not a traditional rangefinder in the sense that there is no optical glass. Instead, when you look into the viewfinder, you see a digital screen, similar to a mirrorless camera.

On that screen, you get an incredible amount of data. You can scroll through options that include GPS hole maps, yardages, hazard data, and scorekeeping. The amount of information available right in the reticle is insane.

Personally, I find it to be a little distracting at times. Because there is so much stuff in the viewfinder, when I use it, I spend a lot of time choosing between menu options and looking at all the cool stuff. It ends up taking away from the game in a way I don’t really prefer.

The Z82 is also starting to show its age. It’s still got the USB mini connection, and the rechargeable battery life isn’t up to the most current standard. You pretty much have to charge the Z82 every round or two.

Overall, for as cool as the Z82 is, it’s probably not for most people. But for gadget guys, it might be a must-have.

This is a traditional rangefinder, meaning you look through optical glass rather than at a digital screen. But it pairs with the Garmin app to provide GPS data.

But not just any data. The Z30 will display distances from the pin to the front and back of the green. For example, if you see a “16” on the top of the screen and a “4” on the bottom, that means the pin is 4 yards from the front and 16 yards from the back.

Many GPS devices give you yardages to the front, middle, and back of a green, but the way this Z30 factors in the pin’s actual location and shows you how much room you have to work with on either side of your target is awesome.

But the real reason to buy this rangefinder is if you’re someone who regularly wears a Garmin golf watch. That’s because you can pair the Z30 with your watch, and in my experience, once you’ve made that initial connection, it syncs automatically every time you start a round. It just works really well.

Here’s where it gets cool. After shooting the flag, your Garmin watch will update to show you a GPS-mapped green with the exact pin location. You’ll still see the front and back yardages, but now you’ll also have the precise flag position for that day right on your wrist.

And it gets even better. Once you’ve locked in that pin location, the watch remembers it. No matter where you move on the hole, you’ll get updated yardages to the actual pin placement, not just the green in general.

I have had some occasional times where the flag location was slightly off, but it’s always close and hasn’t been a big concern overall.

I will say this isn’t the fastest rangefinder. It can take a couple of seconds to pull in the GPS data.

But if you already use a Garmin watch, this rangefinder honestly feels like magic. Since getting it, I’ve kept it in my bag at all times. Even when testing other rangefinders, I find myself coming back to this one just because of how seamlessly it works with my watch.

Voice Caddie SL2 vs. Precision Pro Titan Elite

After I originally reviewed the SL2, I had a lot of people asking if they should get that rangefinder or the Titan Elite. Really, it depends.

The SL2 is better on paper. You’re getting that dual OLED display and the built-in screen (though I will say that’s one of those love-it-or-hate-it features). Overall, the SL2 really is a nice device.

But as far as just a traditional rangefinder feel, I like the Titan Elite. It’s a little bigger and heavier, so it feels more stable. The target vibration is great. The GPS data is quick and right in the viewfinder. It’s just rock solid, and I really like it.

I personally prefer having my data in the viewfinder, like with the Titan Elite, even if that means sacrificing some of the information I’d get if it were on the screen, like with the SL2.

Really, the Garmin Z30 is the best of both worlds. I can get that data from the flag to the front and back in the viewfinder and then get all the additional data on my watch.

But between the SL2 and Titan Elite, it really comes down to whether you like the extra features and the extra information and are OK with having the screen right there, or whether you just like getting everything you need in the viewfinder.

The other consideration, of course, is price. The Titan Elite is $399. And you can get the SL2 for $259.

So, while I probably prefer the Titan Elite, do I prefer it by an extra $140? No, probably not.

Best Smart Caddie: FlightScope i4 or Bushnell Pro X3 Link

In 2025, we’re seeing a new category of smart rangefinders come out. These new models still use GPS data from an app to factor in things like wind, altitude, and temperature – but they take things a step further with club data.

Both the FlightScope i4 and Bushnell Pro X3 Link will take your actual launch monitor data and make real time club recommendations anywhere on the course.

It’s pretty cool tech, that for the right person can be genuinely useful.

These are both niche products that won’t be for everyone, and which one is best for you comes down to which products you use.

The Bushnell Pro X3 Link is hands down the better rangefinder. But you only get that extra club data when you also use a Foresight GC3, GC3s, or Bushnell LPi. 

The FlightScope on the other hand, works best if you use the Mevo Plus or higher-end XC3, but you can input launch monitor data from another device – so this one is best if you don’t have a launch monitor of your own.

Both are cool, but at $599 for the Bushnell and $499 for the i4 – there’s likely a better option for you unless you’re invested in one of their ecosystems.

Final Thoughts on the 5 Best Smart GPS Rangefinders

You’re definitely going to be in good shape with any of the options from this list. I’ve used them all extensively, and I love each one. These are the contenders as I see it.

If you’re looking for the best value, get the Voice Caddie SL2. At $259, that deal is insane.

If you want a traditional rangefinder experience with a little GPS data thrown in, the Precision Pro Titan Elite is a great choice.

If you wear a Garmin watch, just get the Garmin Approach Z30. Seriously. The experience is seamless.

And if you love the idea of a virtual caddie, then either the FlightScope or Bushnell will provide a very unique experience.

Many of them are all derivatives of the same thing. Same design, same features, all manufactured at most likely the same factories.

The ones I actually take the time to review here are the ones that are more special either in terms of features, price, or often both.

When I got the MGI Sureshot SlimPro rangefinder, I didn’t expect much.

MGI is known for it’s electric caddies, and I didn’t even realize they made rangefinders until recently.

This usually isn’t necessarily a good sign.

Before the SlimPro arrived I was almost convinced it would be just like many others I get request to review for, and wouldn’t be worth my time.

But once I received it and actually used it on the course, my tune changed.

Slightly.

So what is it that sets the Sureshot apart? And is it worth buying when there are so many other good rangefinder options right now?

Let’s find out.

First Impressions of the MGI Sureshot SlimPro

The most obvious difference between this and most other rangefinders I’ve used is the size and form factor.

It’s about the same width as other devices, but it’s much shorter and not quite as long. So it’s kind of a narrow tube. For those of you who prefer smaller rangefinders, you’ll love the size of this.

It’s not quite as small as the Voice Caddie Laser Fit, but it definitely feels a bit sturdier and more robust.

The neoprene case it comes with is high quality and a bit different than the typical canvas case that you see.

I don’t love that it’s rechargeable. If you know me, you know I like having real batteries in my rangefinder. Despite my personal feeling however, batteries in these have gotten very good, so even though they don’t provide an actual rating, my guess is many people will be able to go a full season of golf without needing to charge it.

The two buttons on the top are easy to use, and the colored LED on the side indicating if slope mode is on or off is a nice touch.

Overall, it’s solid. Aside from its unique size, there’s nothing overly special or noteworthy about it. It’s certainly not the most robust device I’ve seen, nor is it the cheapest feeling.

It’s pretty middle of the road, and about in line with what I’d expect of a $299 device.

There’s Two Reasons I’d Consider the Sureshot: 7x Magnification and Reliability.

Again, aside from the unique shape, there’s one other feature it has that sets it apart from most rangefinders at this price point: 7x magnification.

95% of rangefinders are 6x magnification. And that’s totally fine.

But the devices that have 7x really do tend to look clearer and make it easier to use.

If you’ve never compared them side by side, you’d probably never think twice.

But when you do, you’ll see how much nicer it is to have the increased magnification.

Off the top of my head the only other 7x ones that I can think of are the Cobalt Q-6 ($450) and Bushnell Pro X3 series ($599).

So to have this at $299? It’s noteworthy.

The optics themselves look clear, but to my eye, not quite as clear as those other two units I’ve mentioned. Or even some others in the same price range. But again, perfectly acceptable.

It’s Very Reliable

The second noteworthy thing about the Sureshot SlimPro is just how reliable I’ve found it to be.

In my round with it, I didn’t have a single shot where I questioned the accuracy of it. It found the flag, and locked onto it quickly and reliably.

It’s not the fastest rangefinder I’ve ever used, but it’s certainly not slow. And honestly, sometimes I like it to take half a second longer, as it can sometimes feel more confidence inducing in the number.

The vibration feature works great with a solid buzz happening only when it found the flag.

Over and over, it gave me accurate numbers for whatever I was shooting. It was always within a yard of the other high end rangefinders I put it up against too – and at times felt more reliable.

And honestly? That’s really what most of us want in a rangefinder. Accurate distances as quickly and easily as possible – and this really shines at doing just that.

Other Features are Pretty Run of the Mill

So it’s got a unique size, 7x magnification, and is accurate and reliable. 

That sums up this device.

It doesn’t have a lot of features other rangefinders have these days, some of which are gimmicky, others not so much.

There’s no magnet to attach to a cart.

The only display color is black.

There are no GPS features.

But do you need most of those things? In most cases, no you don’t.

But considering many rangefinders at this price point, do have them, you might feel like you’re missing out a little bit, since on the surface this feels more basic.

Should You Buy It? Maybe.

Being blunt, this rangefinder was better than I expected it to be.

The combo of 7x magnification and it’s reliability really won me over.

But at $299? That’s a lot of money, and I really feel like you’re paying the premium for those 7x optics. That said,  it might be worth it considering that’s the one biggest feature I wish I saw on more devices.

But when put up against my current overall best rangefinder pick, the Voice Caddie TL1 – it’s tough to definitively recommend the MGI.

You can grab the TL1 for $20 cheaper, it has a magnet, it has a dual color OLED screen, and while if I’m being nitpicky, the Sureshot may be slightly more reliable, it’s certainly not by much.

While I do like the 7x magnification, the TL1 has one of the best 6x lenses I’ve seen, and that beautiful dual color OLED text is night and day better than the all black of the SlimPro.

So I’d likely still go that direction if you’re looking for a device in this price point.

Then there are other niche cases like those who want GPS or optical stabilization where I’d recommend something different.

Bottom line if you decide to pick this up? I think you’ll love it. It does everything a rangefinder should do, and it does it very well. But this is probably the most crowded golf niche out there right now, and products are getting better and cheaper. 

So for as good as it is, there are a number of other products that are just as good for a bit less money.

What is the FlightScope i4 Rangefinder?

About 4 years ago, Precision Pro became the first rangefinder company to factor your launch monitor data into its slope calculations.

The problem? Since they don’t have a launch monitor of their own, the integration kind of fell flat. No one I know actually used it.

It’s left me waiting to see who would take the concept and really run with it.

The answer?

Well, Foresight beat Flightscope to the punch by about 3 weeks.

They just released the new Bushnell Pro X3 Link and Foresight GC3s. The new Foresight units will ship with a very high-end rangefinder that will give you customized distances based on your personal data from Foresight launch monitors.

On the surface, it looks pretty cool.

Well now, FlightScope is essentially doing something similar. The new i4 Rangefinder is going to allow you to do the same thing: get more personalized yardages and data on the golf course.

What Will the New FlightScope Rangefinder Do?

The new i4 will take what it knows about your club distances and will make club recommendations before every shot directly in the viewfinder – just like the Bushnell system.

But where things get a little more interesting is how the FlightScope will factor in environmental factors to adjust distances and recommendations.

FlightScope has been working for well over a year on their new Environmental Optimizer system for the Mevo Plus.

“The EO pulls real-time weather data, including air density and kinematic viscosity, ensuring that its distance calculations are always accurate and relevant to the current playing conditions. The FlightScope i4 sets itself apart from traditional rangefinders, making it a must-have for any golfer who wants to improve and score better.”

The Bushnell Pro X3 series rangefinders have had some of these capabilities built-in for a couple of generations now, so it will be interesting to see how these two devices stack up to each other.

Do We Really Need This?

I’m personally excited to get hands on with both systems and see how they work.

Because, while the tech is cool on the surface, I can’t help but think “Do we really need this?”

If you’re a good enough golfer to spend thousands of dollars on a launch monitor, and have gone through the process of gapping your clubs – then do we really need a rangefinder to tell us what club to hit?

How accurate are environmental factors like wind? If the nearest weather station is a mile away, then the data you’re getting may be different from the par 3 you’re standing on.

I’m skeptical but excited.

As far as the i4 pricing, $499 places it squarely among the most expensive rangefinders in golf. It’s $100 less than the MSRP on the Pro X3 series, but $100+ more than many other worthy counterparts.

If you’re a dedicated Mevo Plus user and in the market for a rangefinder, I’ve gotta imagine this is the device you’ll want to get. Similar to how I’d generally only recommend the Garmin Approach Z30 to golfers who use a Garmin GPS watch.

The bigger question is will this be useful enough to get non-Mevo Plus users to pay a premium and buy?

Or will it be interesting enough to get people to want to invest in the Mevo Plus system?

That’s exactly how I felt when I got my hands on the Canon PowerShot Golf Rangefinder.

It’s a mix of a laser rangefinder and a camera—a combo I didn’t see coming. As someone who has reviewed countless golf gadgets, I had to find out if this hybrid device was a stroke of genius or just something unnecessary.

Spoiler: it’s a little bit of both.

First Impressions of the Canon Powershot Golf

For the last 5 years I’ve used Canon cameras almost exclusively for both my YouTube videos as well as the photos on this site. So I was pretty excited to see if this product would live up to expectations.

The rangefinder market is saturated, with products ranging from $150 to $600 that generally aim to do the same thing: get accurate distances fast.

When I opened the box, I wasn’t blown away. There was the rangefinder itself and a canvas carrying case—no charger included.

For a $350 product that requires regular charging, this felt like an oversight. That said, the device is tiny. It’s one of the smallest rangefinders I’ve ever seen, which could appeal to players who like a minimalist, lightweight option.

Build Quality of the Canon Golf Rangefinder

Holding the device, it instantly feels like a Canon camera—not a typical rangefinder. The build quality leans more toward a point-and-shoot camera than something rugged for the golf course.

Which is to say, the build quality is great. It feels like a high-end Canon point-and-shoot more than a rangefinder.

While its IPX4 waterproof rating means it can handle splashes, it’s far behind competitors with IPX67 ratings that can survive full submersion.

Also similar to how you’d feel about a camera, if you were to drop it – it probably wouldn’t end well. So while it feels expensive, it doesn’t feel as durable as your typical rangefinder. 

But How Does it Perform?

Let’s talk about what matters most: how well it functions as a rangefinder. And here, the Canon PowerShot delivers where it counts—sort of.

Canon’s strength in image stabilization shines through. If you’ve struggled to lock onto flags because of shaky hands, this rangefinder makes a big difference. The stabilization technology works seamlessly, helping you get accurate yardages without frustration.

Also since I’ve only tested two other image-stabilized rangefinders (the Nikon Coolshot ProII Stabilized, and the Leupold GX-6C) and both are 4+ years old, I think this is the feature that will lead the most people to buy the Powershot.

The 6x magnification is standard, but the digital zoom to 12x sets it apart—though not always in a good way. At higher zoom levels, the image gets shakier, making it harder to focus on the flag. While it’s a cool feature, it feels more like a novelty than something practical.

One convenient feature is the vibration feedback. When you lock onto the flag, the device vibrates and displays a small flag icon, giving you confidence in the reading. It works really well.

The menu system leaves a lot to be desired. Canon borrowed its camera interface, which works great on larger devices but feels cramped and unintuitive here. With four buttons controlling various functions, I often found myself clicking the wrong option or struggling to navigate quickly.

Camera Performance

Now here’s where things take a turn. The PowerShot isn’t just a rangefinder—it’s also a camera. You can capture photos and videos on the course, which sounds exciting until you actually try it.

Taking photos is simple enough, and it doesn’t interfere with the rangefinder functionality. But the image and video quality just don’t live up to Canon’s usual standards. Photos looked grainy, and videos were limited to 1080p resolution at 24 or 30 frames per second. The low frame rate means video feels choppy, especially if you’re moving the device around.

Focusing is another issue. While trying to capture a flag, I found that some shots had the flag in focus while others didn’t. It’s inconsistent at best. Combined with the minimum focus distance of 4.4 yards, don’t expect to take any close-up shots.

Considering I always have my iPhone nearby, even if I was using this as my rangefinder, I’d still probably just use my phone for photos and videos.

The quality is better, and not to mention the convenience of editing and sharing your images is lightyears better than having to download off the device.

Final Thoughts on the Canon Powershot Golf

The Canon PowerShot Golf Rangefinder is undeniably unique, but it’s also a mixed bag. If you’re looking for a lightweight, well-built rangefinder with excellent image stabilization, it’s worth considering—especially if you have shaky hands. It delivers accurate readings quickly and has a sleek, compact design that stands out.

That’s who this is for.

However, the camera functionality, which should have been its standout feature, falls short. Grainy photos, low-resolution video, and awkward focus make it hard to justify relying on this over a smartphone.

For $350, you’re paying for a decent rangefinder with a quirky camera that feels more like a gimmick than a useful tool. If you’d rather have pure performance, the Nikon CoolShot remains my top recommendation—it nails the basics without complicating things.

Unless the idea of a camera-rangefinder combo really appeals to you, this might not be the upgrade you’re looking for.

I’m not gonna lie, it’s getting more and more difficult to review golf rangefinders these days.

Not because of new or more complicated features, but rather because there are simply so many good products out there now.

So differentiating between them, and deciding which ones are better than others is getting to be an increasingly challenging proposition. 

But, someone has to do it!

Today we have the Voice Caddie TL1, which is their flagship standard rangefinder.

I recently reviewed their top-of-the-line SL3 rangefinder, which is unique in that it has GPS data built into it.

It’s crazy cool for the tech nerds out there, but most golfers are simply looking for a reliable rangefinder that can quickly and accurately give them the distances they need.

But were they successful? Have they created a product that’s actually worth spending money on, in an increasingly crowded field of great golf rangefinders?

Let’s find out.

Update June 2024: New (Insane) Pricing

As you’ll see in this review, I think this is a fantastic product. It just faced stiff competition at its original price of $449.

But over the last few months, we’ve seen some crazy price drops.

They recently dropped the price to $349 – which feels like where I’d expect it to be, and would be a strong buy at that price.

But then I got an email saying they’re being very aggressive with pricing this year and that they wanted to offer Breaking Eighty readers the unit at $279. This makes it a no-brainer.

At that price, there’s no other traditional rangefinder I’d come close to recommending over this one.

BUT, they also just recently offered special pricing on their hybrid GPS rangefinder the Voice Caddie SL2.

It has the same laser, adds a GPS screen, and they’re actually offering it for $20 less than the TL1 at $259.

These are the two best rangefinder deals in golf, and which one is right for you, really comes down to how much use you think you’ll get out of the extra GPS tech features. But you can’t go wrong either way.

First Impressions of the Voice Caddie TL1 Rangefinder

I’ve been consistently impressed with the products that Voice Caddie/Swing Caddie have been putting out lately.

The SL3 is a unique product that performs well. Both the T9 watch and SC4 launch monitor are fantastic.

So I had no doubt that the TL1 would be another impressive product.

In the box, you’ll find a white leather carrying case, a carabiner, the TL1 itself, a microfiber wipe, and a small instruction book. Nothing surprising here.

The case itself isn’t quite as nice as the one that comes with the SL3, and the bold white color with red lettering is going to be polarizing for a lot of people. I kind of wish it was a bit more subtle, but considering I usually use a Vessel Bag with a built-in rangefinder pocket – it doesn’t matter much.

The build quality of the rangefinder is great. It doesn’t necessarily feel quite as robust as more expensive models like the Bushnell Pro X3 or Cobalt Q-6 Slope – but it’s certainly very good. The included silicone case is also a nice touch as it makes it even easier to grip and provides a little bit of added durability and water resistance. While the color yellow may not have been my first choice, it’s at least very visible which can help make sure you don’t lose it.

There’s a discreet slope switch on the side which is a great touch, and I really like how it’s implemented.

Overall, this is a very high-quality rangefinder and one that seems worthy of its $450 price tag.

Voice Caddie TL1 Performance

One of the first things you notice when you use the Voice Caddie TL1 for the first time is the beautiful OLED screen within the viewfinder. 

This is one of the few units I’ve tested that has a dual color red and green screen, and it looks wonderful.

The contrast of the green and red lends itself to excellent visibility, and the layout of the information on it is very good as well.

The data is displayed in a very clear, easy-to-read manner. Even with the slope turned on, it gives you all the pertinent distance information without feeling busy or overwhelmed – something that happens a lot with more budget devices.

I’ve found the TL1 to not only be extremely fast, but it’s extremely accurate as well. Not just in terms of distance readings, which have always been spot on, but in terms of lasering the correct target.

Their Pin-Tracer technology does a great job of locking onto the flag, and not picking up trees or other objects behind it – unless that’s what you’re shooting for.

The vibration technology is well-implemented and most of the time only vibrates when a true flag lock has been detected. There have been occasional times where it vibrated at other objects, but not in a way that was distracting or questioning the accuracy of the device.

When a flag is detected the viewfinder lights up green, which as mentioned is a nice touch. I did receive a comment recently from someone who is colorblind and has had issues with red and green displays. So if this is something that affects you, then you might look at a device that just has a crisp black display instead.

Comparing the TL1 to Other Similar Models

The Voice Caddie TL1 has pretty much all of the high-end features you would expect on a rangefinder over $400 – except one.

The only major feature that the TL1 is missing when compared to premium models from Cobalt and Bushnell is 7x magnification. The TL1 is only 6x, and a very good-looking 6x at that, but I personally prefer the expansive feeling you get from 7x lenses.

This puts the TL1 right in line with the Bushnell Tour V6 Shift, as both are premium devices around the $400 mark, that have 6x magnification.

When compared to the Cobalt Q-6, which has been my preferred model this past year, it stacks up very favorably.

While the optics aren’t quite as clear, the dual-color OLED display still makes it pop and is a joy to look at. The TL1 also has a built-in magnet which the Q-6 does not, and the ability to see both slope and actual data at the same time – which the Cobalt can also not do.

The TL1 outperforms pretty much every other mid-range device I’ve tested in the $300 range. It’s faster and has a better display than the Cobalt Q-4, has more features than the standard Bushnell Tour V6, and has better build quality and pin-seeking technology than the Precision Pro NX10.

I think for most people the biggest decision will be whether or not to go for this over the Bushnell Tour V6 shift. The display is better on the TL1 and the silicone case is a nice touch, but it’s tough to argue against the reliability and name brand of Bushnell.

Final Thoughts on the Voice Caddie TL1

Overall the Voice Caddie TL1 performed extremely well and lived up to my expectations after having positive experiences with other Voice Caddie products.

Personally, for as cool as the GPS features of the SL3 are, I’d save the $200 and go with this model. It’s a premium laser rangefinder that works exactly how you’d expect and hope it would. It gives you very fast and accurate data exactly when you need it – and that’s the single most important thing a golf rangefinder can do.

I have a few concerns over the responsiveness of customer service with Voice Caddie when compared to other known brands like Bushnell, Cobalt, or Precision Pro – but if you buy through Play Better, that negates the concern as their customer service is excellent.

The TL1 is one of the best rangefinders I’ve tested, and if its feature set speaks to you over other models on the market, then I’d have absolutely zero concerns about picking one of these up. I think you’ll be extremely pleased with its performance.

They’re the king of rangefinders for a reason. Historically, they’ve made the best, most reliable, most consistent products on the market and  I still think, for the most part, that’s true. 

Their newest top-of-the-line rangefinder for 2024 is the Pro X3+, and it looks remarkably similar to last year’s Bushnell Pro X3 (without the plus).

Aside from the fact the Plus is a little bit darker gray than the original X3, they’re essentially the exact same device, save for one big feature: there is real-time wind data built into the Pro X3 Plus. 

Sounds kind of cool, but what does that mean in reality? And is this a feature that’s actually something that you want or need? And how does it affect the user experience? 

First Impressions of the Bushnell Pro X3+

The Pro X3 Plus, is built like a tank. It feels super high quality and very robust. It’s on the heavy and wide side but as you would expect from Bushnell’s top-of-the-line rangefinder, the overall build quality is excellent.

All the physical specs are the exact same as the Pro X3. You can go watch my video or read my review about the Pro X3 and for the most part, everything is going to be the same. 

I like a larger rangefinder. I like the fact it feels substantial and I like the weight that comes along with it. For me personally, I feel that weight just makes it easier to make sure I’m locking on to the exact target that I’m looking for.

The waterproof case is excellent. And first impressions are, yeah, it’s as good as you would think it would be. And it better be for $599.

How Accurate is the Pro X3 Plus?

Before we get into some of the other features, let’s touch real quick on accuracy. Here’s the reality. With any rangefinder that’s in the $250 to $300 or more range, I’m not generally concerned about accuracy.

Technology in these rangefinders has gotten very, very good. So in that mid-tier to high-price range, assuming the rangefinder can lock on to the right target, it’s going to give you accurate distances. That is absolutely true with the Pro X3 Plus.

The distances feel spot on and it’s super easy to lock on to your target. I have absolutely no issues with accuracy.

It is also very fast. So if you just want data, you want it quickly, and you want to know it’s accurate, this is going to do an awesome job of that. But, like I said, for half the price, you can find other devices that are going to do an awesome job of that as well.

It has what they call PinSeeker with Visual Jolt, so it will vibrate when it locks onto the flag. It will give you a visual indicator with a big red circle around the viewfinder to let you know that it has locked onto the target and you have an accurate distance. I’ve found that this works really well.

Usability and Features on the Pro X3+

One of the things I’ve always loved about Bushnell rangefinders is the display. And this one has 7x magnification optics, so it looks awesome.

In terms of controls, there are two buttons on top.

The power button doubles as the range button. So you tap it once to turn it on. You tap again to get your distance.

Hold down the mode button and you’ll get into Bluetooth pairing mode, as well as be able to change from meters to yards. 

In a nice design feature, the Bushnell logo is actually a button. So you can push it and it will change from black text to an illuminated red text.

So if the lighting conditions aren’t great or if you’re having trouble seeing black against a dark background, you can light that up as red just by hitting the button, which works great. 

And, as you would imagine, there is a slope mode built in, so it will give you an adjusted distance based on the elevation of the green.

But where this thing really stands apart is its “slope with elements” feature. Not only is it going to factor in if your target is above you or below you, it will also look at things like barometric pressure, temperature, and even altitude to give you a true “plays like” distance.

The one thing that’s a little odd about this is that the whole reason for bringing out the “Plus” is to add wind data. Yet as I understand it, that wind data is not captured in the plays like distance. There are separate numbers for wind.

So you’ll get your true plays like distance and you’ll have the wind data and you’re still left to do a little bit of calculating to figure out what that number is going to be for you. Super high-tech and super cool. But is it necessary for most people? Probably not.

I’m also not a huge fan of the way the slope mode works. There’s a little locking mechanism that you pull down and hold while you slide the slope switch back and forth to engage and disengage. This makes it a two-handed operation which is kind of awkward.

I preferred the old one where it was just a little switch built into the logo. That’s how it works on the lower-end V6. You just flip a switch. Very easy. 

I guess I understand it. If you’re a tournament player, you want to make sure that it doesn’t accidentally get moved into slope mode during a tournament. But for the average person, I’ve just found it to be one extra step that’s a little annoying.

There’s a very strong magnet that has no problem keeping the rangefinder in place on a cart.

Why I Wouldn’t Recommend The Bushnell Pro X3+ for MOST People

Okay. So generally speaking, it’s super accurate. It’s fast. The build quality is unmatched. So why would I not recommend it? 

First off, the new feature in the Plus, as I’ve mentioned, is that it adds wind data.

But to do that, it adds an extra layer of complication because of the fact that you have to download the Bushnell Golf app and make sure that it’s paired to the device. And then you also have to wait every time you look into it for it to connect with the app and give you that wind data.

It’s basing its wind data off whatever the nearest weather station is to you. But what if there’s swirly wind or it’s really variable? You can just pick up some grass and see what the wind’s doing probably more accurately than what this is going to tell you.

And while generally, yes, it’s a nice data point to have, if you said, well, you could have wind data or no wind data, you’d probably say, “cool, give me the data”. But what I found, and I’ve found this with other GPS devices sometimes as well, is that it will often disconnect from the app.

All you have to do to reconnect it is just open up the Bushnell app and it’s almost immediately reconnected. But the whole point of a rangefinder is to get accurate yardages as quickly and painlessly as possible.

So if I open it up, there’s no wind data; I’ve got to go back and pull open the app. It’s going to connect. And then the whole thing will start vibrating. 

What it’s doing is waiting to get that wind data. And so often I’ll wait like 15 to 20 seconds before the wind data actually populates. And that means I’m spending more time just sitting there. Waiting.

I’m having to wait for my shots and I’m holding up my playing partners. It just kind of got in the way of my round more than it helped me with it.

One of the things I’ve always liked about Bushnell products is the minimal text in the display. It doesn’t feel overly cluttered. I’m not having to look at a bunch of things to get my data and it’s just pretty streamlined. 

Well, now with this, you’ve got your slope data. Plus, it gives you a Bluetooth symbol, a battery indicator, and yardage. And now you’ve got the wind data. All of a sudden, there’s a whole bunch of stuff in the viewfinder that I just don’t really love. If you flip slope mode off, then almost all of that goes away and you’re back to that super clean view that I really like. 

Other Rangefinders to Consider

But you’re not spending $600 on a device like this if you’re not using Slope. You can spend half of that on the Bushnell V6 without slope and it’s going to give you yardages that are just as accurate. Plus it’s going to weigh less. And while the build quality might not quite be the same, it’s still very, very good.

Or you can spend LESS than half the price on a Voice Caddie TL1 – which is realistically the best value in rangefinders right now at a special price of $280.

If you’re going to go through the process of pairing this with the app and have the communication between the viewfinder and the app, that’s cool tech. There haven’t been that many rangefinders that could do it.

One was the Precision Pro R1, which was one of the first smart devices that came out that had GPS data in the viewfinder. There were some issues with that device, so they discontinued it. But right now, they’ve come out with their new Titan Elite, which essentially factors in everything they learned from the R1 and everything they needed to improve on it.

The Titan is going to do most of what the Pro X3 Plus will do, and it’s going to cost far less. 

Best Traditional Rangefinder with GPS Data

So where am I going with this? Well, my point is, if you’re connecting to an app and you’re using GPS and I can see that it’s 160 to the flag, 143 to the front, and 174 to the back, that gives me really useful data. 

The wind data just isn’t as useful.

So if all the tech was basically the same to do that, I still have to pair, I still have to connect to Bluetooth, I still have to do all this, why wouldn’t you give me the GPS data, which is more useful than the wind data?

If you like the idea of a smart rangefinder with some of those GPS distances, I would definitely take a look at the Titan Elite. 

One other thing I will mention is that with the extra complication of wind data, because of the built-in magnet, you have to calibrate the device from time to time.

It’s just a lot of extra work for not a whole lot of extra value. And when you’re spending $600 on a device, I want everything to be easy.

Final Thoughts on the Bushnell Pro X3+

So, is the Pro X3 Plus one of the best rangefinders on the market? Yes. For all of the rangefinder things you need it to do, build quality, speed, accuracy, optics, all of that stuff, it is phenomenal.

You could argue it’s the best overall rangefinder out there if price isn’t a consideration. But by adding the GPS complications and wind data and the fact that you will occasionally have to re-pair and then wait for it, plus the need for occasional calibration, I just haven’t found the whole implementation to be that useful. 

And in fact, it’s detracted from my experience because it’s made me spend more time with the rangefinder on the course.

But I think you need to consider that you can go get an older Pro X3 that does all of the exact same stuff for probably $100 less.

Other options? The Cobalt Q6 at $450, is one of my all-time favorite rangefinders. That’s probably the one I’ve personally used the most. The Precision Pro NX10 is under $300 which is excellent and one of the most enjoyable rangefinders to use. 

The Titan Elite I mentioned is going to come in right around $400 and it’s going to have all the built-in GPS data, as well as the great usability of the NX10.

And the aforementioned Voice Caddie TL1. Or if you want to splurge the SL3 is the same price as the Bushnell but with a higher res display and a useful GPS screen.

So there are options. 

Bottom line? As it sits right now for $600, I probably wouldn’t buy the Pro X3 Plus. If you’re reading this down the line and you see sales on it and this comes down to $550 or $500 or maybe even $450 if we get a Black Friday sale or something, yeah, definitely worth considering. 

But I just don’t see the wind data being worth the expense for most people considering the other great, and more cost-effective, options out there.
